Wright to Repair

Introduction

Wright to Repair has a lot of experience in tech support, so in this section, I am going to outline what those services are, what they look like, and what kind of pricing you can expect. I work on an hourly rate, plus the cost of parts.

Part of what I like to do is to educate people while I run repairs. This isn't always possible, nor does everyone want that, but I will always try to explain what I am doing, why, and to write explicit and direct instructions when necessary.

In-Person Consultation

This is probably the most common type of support. Sometimes it's easiest if I can get my eyes on the problem, and address them there. I am happy to schedule appointments at-home, or in a third space.

In-Person pricing is $40/hr plus parts costs.

Online Consultation

If it makes sense for the problem you are having, if you are out of reach, or if you prefer it, I can also meet virtually through Zoom. With Zoom, I can temporarily take partial control of your computer and run setup, repairs, updates, with some support in-between. I will also have to provide a phone number for these sessions in case something goes wrong and we lose communication.

Online pricing is $30/hr.

Email Consultation

Sometimes fixes can be done just through email. Really quick questions, I am more than happy to answer without charge, but more complex problems, which would require quite a bit more time to either research, or to write out, I will have to charge for my time. Sometimes I will also screen record my device and send instructions via video. In either case, I will inform you before doing the work and charging you.

Email Consultation will charge $30/hr with a minimum charge of $20.

Overnight Repair

Some repairs, such as a broken screen, major drive backup, or re-image, may take more time than a regular in-person consultation might allow. Additionally, I may have to wait for parts to arrive for a few days before I can begin. These repairs are charged based on parts and labor cost, but will not charge for time spent waiting for parts. That is, if a repair takes two hours to perform, but the parts took four days to get here, I would only charge for the parts cost, and two hours of labor.

Overnight repair pricing is parts + $40/hr.

Phone Repair

I also offer phone repairs, which look very similar to overnight repairs. I can run repairs such as screen replacement, camera replacement, thumb print and button replacement, charging port replacement and more. Eligability for these repairs will depend on the type of phone, and the availability of parts. I am not a certified apple repair shop, so repairing apple devices will generally void your warranty. New Computer Build

If you are looking for a new custom computer, I can consult on your needs, and inform on the best possible build. In my experience, custom PC builders usually over-build, or use cheap parts where customers won't notice immediately. I want to find out exactly what you actually need, and provide options based on that information. Sometimes that means re-imaging a used computer or laptop, and sometimes that means building a top-of-the-line gaming PC.

Instructions on Building a New Computer

If you're anything like me, getting a new computer is fun, but building one yourself is even better. When growing up, I seldom had money for a new computer, so I usually built them with discarded spare parts, and I had to muddle my way through and learn as I went. Fun as that is, this service is be the same as a new computer build, but would include teaching the would-be owner how to build a new computer at home, or meeting somewhere we can work. Instructions would focus on what each component does, how to plug them all in safely and correctly, desk setup, OS install, and finally troubleshooting. Make sure to allow for about four hours for the actual build. Some go faster than others, depending on the complication of the build.

New Router Builds

Because the import of non-US manufactured routers may soon be banned for an indeterminite amount of time, I am also offering to build ones with shipable parts. Most internet providers rent out their own equipment, and will not run out of supply quickly, this will not be applicable to most customers, but for those with very small businesses, or large buildings that default routers cannot always cover, I can consult on parts purchasing, setup and initialization of new router hardware and software.

Router pricing is parts + $40/hr.
